Haleyville City Schools Superintendent’s Report To the Public |
Mark calendars for Sunday afternoon, October 4th at 3 o’clock for the Ken Williams Band Hall dedication ceremony. This Board unanimously voted to name the band room in his honor earlier this year. Mr. Williams was our long time band director during which numerous state and national awards were earned by both the marching and concert bands. We encourage present and former band members to be in attendance to demonstrate your appreciation for Mr. Williams, who is bravely battling a severe health issue. |
The renovation of the high school is ahead of schedule and move-in is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of October 9 – 12. This is also Fall Break weekend. The building has a “new look” inside and out; one the students will be most proud of and happy to be the “first” to occupy. A major change is the enclosure of the courtyards. The one in front of the library will serve as a “Commons Area” where students will gather before and between classes. A formal open house will be held at a later date. |
On a personal note, I would like to thank this great community for the many expressions of kindness shown to me and my family following Mother’s passing last week. All acts: calls, cards, visits, food and flowers were and are greatly appreciated. They helped us then and continue to give us strength through this time of grief. It has been very humbling and we ask for your continued prayers. |
Last night Board members attended the Fall District Meeting of the Alabama Association of School Boards in Decatur. Sally Howell, AASB Executive Director, gave an update on the financial status of the Educational Trust Fund and LuAnn Bird, Director of Board Development, presented a power point program on how to use data to improve academics. Attending professional development sessions like these enables our Board members to stay current of happenings in education. |
